The National Centre for Universities and Business (NCUB) has warmly welcomed the Government’s consultation on its new industrial strategy green paper.
In its response, the NCUB welcomed a return to strategic industrial policy as a way of coordinating, aligning and stimulating targeted activity among stakeholders. The response highlights the importance of universities to supporting economic growth and underlines the role of government in incentivising private sector R&D investment.
The NCUB also said the "Government will need to underpin the industrial strategy with robust data on the UK’s strengths, clusters and capabilities. NCUB's konfer platform, which comprehensively captures data on research strengths and facilities and where universities and businesses post opportunities for collaboration, can be used as part of this process. The data pulled from konfer shows the types of technologies and collaborations that are most sought after, and can be used to show geographical areas of strength."
